The Not So Early Years

Posted June 20, 2011

My new compilation CD "The Not So Early Years" is now available! I hand picked these songs to highlight the best of my three CDs, and to give fans an option to hear all my best music from 2006 - 2011. If you like the full band studio recordings from my first CD, or the no frills acoustic tracks from my solo recordings, you'll find an interesting mix of all my styles. Available for download at my music store, or pick up a disc at a live show this summer!

New Projects Spring/Summer

Posted May 9th, 2011

It's been an exciting year so far, and I'm getting back to everything I love about music. Deciding to leave my "day job" and focus on music full time was a hard decision, but I'm reaping the benefits, and I think my blood pressure has gone down! You can find me at lots of new venues this year, with new musicians collaborating to create even better music.

I've rolled out a new trio, featuring my good friend, and incredible musician, R Scott Bryan, on his world percussion kit. Completing the rhythm section is bassist Eric Warren, a veteran of the St. Louis music scene, who adds lots of new life to my songs, and has an extremely understated funkiness to his style. When Scott's on tour, you can find Joe Meyer holding down the beat. Joe's quickly becoming a St. Louis legend, and his drumming always lives up to the "hype." And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Dennis Stringfield, my drummer in the bullpen, who's always willing to gig with me when I make the call. I'm also excited to begin work on a new guitar duo, featuring Matt Rowland on lead guitar. Matt's got excellent licks that are rooted in tradition, but really pop with modern sensibilities. So please check my full list of summer shows and mark your calendar to hear my music in ways you've never heard before. Can't wait to see you there!

Writing a blog has become a great way to fill in the gaps between crafting songs, and write more literally about my life and the world as I perceive it. I truly appreciate everyone who has taken a moment to read my blog, and even subscribe. I always enjoy your feedback. Join the conversation!

Blues and Ballads

Posted January 7th, 2011

I'm pleased to announce the release of my new collection of songs, entitled Blues and Ballads, available now for listening and download. I initially intended to catalog these songs as demos, but I'm really psyched about the results of the recording session that I had at Red Pill Studios. It's truly cathartic to finally put out these songs from the last five or six years. These are the cream of the crop from hours of scribbling lyrics down at 2 am, hammering out songs with a spiral notebook in front of re-run TV shows, and searching for the right chords to make it all work. So please give a listen and tell me what you think. As the great Canadian rocker Bryan Adams once said (yeah that's right I'm quoting Bryan Adams,) these songs come straight from the heart... so thanks for letting them in your ears. Find them right over there to the right....

USAA Garage Band Playoff

Updated March 22nd, 2011

Thanks to everyone who helped vote for my song in the Garage Band contest! It was an honor to be chosen as one of the top 24 finalists in USAA's nationwide competition. Although I did not advance to the next round, I cannot express enough how much I appreciate all your time and effort clicking that mouse and keyboard. Seriously, you know who you are, you all rock! Come on out to a show, and remind me that you voted, and I'll be sure to give you a free KB T-Shirt. It's soft, stylish, and you deserve it!

Drury University presents DU Uncut

Posted November 5th, 2009

Thanks again to Brian Shipman for inviting me down to record some great live video for Drury University's DU Uncut, a TV broadcast produced and recorded by students, featuring original music and performers from around the country. Please visit my youtube page to see the all my performances, and more. I can't thank percussionist Joe Meyer enough for laying down some tight grooves, and waking up early to make the roadtrip with me.

In Celebration of the Song @ The Sheldon Concert Hall

Posted June 15th, 2009

No doubt one of the most enjoyable nights I've spent on stage, "In Celebration of the Song," at The Sheldon Concert Hall, clearly re-affirmed why I play music, and why all the ups and downs in the music "biz" are worth it. Sharing the stage with Javier Mendoza, Amy Petty, and R Scott Bryan, in a songwriters in the round style event, was just incredible. Not only did we have a wonderful, captive audience, but I'm positive I've never played a better sounding room. Thanks to all those that made it possible! Check out my video page to see some clips.

Paper Money the CD

Posted January 10th, 2009

It all started with a couple of friends and some guitars. Doesn't it always? My first studio release came out in 2006, and I'm still proud of what we accomplished without a real studio, in various rooms and basements, and with the help of a lot of great local musicians, including Jacob Detering, Dave Aholt, and R Scott Bryan, to name a few. Check out this page to hear songs like "Long Ride," "Paper Money," and "Under My Wheels."
